Our very first trip to Sephora was when my daughter was still in middle school and had a school dance coming up.
Having spent my career in healthcare, I found myself looking closely at the ingredients. But the more I read, and the more ingredients I looked up, the more questions I had.
I wanted something I could feel good about giving my daughter, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
A shopping trip that stayed with us.
We started making our own lip balms in our apartment kitchen. Trying things, learning together, and turning a question into something we could hold in our hands.
It was a little messy. It was very much ours.
First batches. Big possibilities.
Other families began reaching out to try what we were making. Suddenly, this wasn't just a project for the two of us.
We started wondering: what if we could share this with more families?
Our little idea started growing.
For weeks, we couldn't find a name that felt right. Then, walking along Second Avenue in New York City, Noa had an idea: "What if we call it Avenella?"
To us, Avenue became the journey, and "ella" the girl finding her way. A name for growing up, discovering yourself, and all the possibilities ahead.
And so, Avenella was born.
Avenue + ella.
A name of our own.
From the beginning, we wanted to make something different and special. Something girls could be excited to use and proud to carry.
So we picked up our pencils. These first sketches were the beginning of the balms you see today.
Drawn with a little imagination.
We wanted ingredients we understood, each chosen for a reason, and packaging that felt special in everyday life. We wanted to be thoughtful about its impact, too.
Our community was there through the first batches, the shade experiments, and all the little decisions along the way. You tried, shared, and encouraged us.
We'll always be so grateful.
Every little bit of encouragement mattered.
For months, we made the balms ourselves, packed the orders, and took them to the post office. Eventually, we outgrew our small New York City apartment kitchen.
We found a manufacturer we could trust to help us take the next step. Avenella was growing, and we were learning right alongside it.
A bigger home for our little dream.
What began as something for our family has become something we're so excited to share with yours.

We believe you deserve to know what goes on your lips. Here are our key ingredients, why we use them, and the complete formulas.
Thoughtfully chosen. Beautifully felt.
Helps seal in moisture and gives your lips a soft, nourishing layer.
A conditioning oil with a composition similar to the oils naturally found in skin.
Adds a cushiony feel and leaves lips feeling smooth and supple.
Think of it as a moisture magnet: it draws in water and helps hold it there, so your lips feel soft, smooth and hydrated.
A little bodyguard for our plant oils. This antioxidant helps keep them fresh, so every swipe feels as good as the first, and it leaves lips feeling soft and conditioned.
A light, silky plant oil that rounds out our blend and carries our flavor oils.
A soft pink, rosy-gold glow, made with plant extracts and ethically sourced mica. Vanilla is clear and glossy.

We spent the past year improving our formula and moving to a manufacturer we trust. Avenella is still made in the USA, with the same commitment to high-quality ingredients and transparency.
Each tube holds 20 ml (0.67 fl oz), with a cooling metal applicator.
No. We don't use synthetic fragrance or synthetic dyes. Both flavors are made with food-grade flavor oils: vanilla fruit extract in Vanilla, rose flower extract in Rose. Rose's soft pink, rosy-gold glow is made with plant extracts and ethically sourced mica.
Avenella is made for everyone, from pre-teens to grown-ups. Our full ingredient list is always right here on our website, so you can see exactly what's in every tube.
